Global Medical File

Your General Practioner is responsible for the maintenance and coordination of your GMF. This is your Global Medical File.


Your doctor is best placed to organise a referral to a specialist; for such purposes, your global medical file is used to communicate your medical information between the specialist, your doctor and other healthcare providers.


For the maintenance and coordination of your file The RIZIV charges a fee, determined by them and taken by your doctor. This happens annually, and will be requested during a consultation or home visit. This amount is fully reimbursed by your health insurance provider, from which point there will be 30% reduction on the payment for each consultation or home visit.
